As sport and leisure is an integral part of all societies the law of sport impacts on many people’s lives not only those who play. This paper aims to evaluate the existing and developing laws governing and regulating sports with a major focus on developments in New Zealand. The paper will survey many facets of the interface law and sports including drugs and doping in sport, athletes contracts, sponsorship, media, privacy , criminal and tortious liability, sporting injuries and ACC, discrimination, governance and tax.

This paper will be taught through lectures and seminars.

Please note:

This Paper is taught two classes on Wednesdays for the period of S semester.

The course is not designed to be a formal note-writing session. Wherever possible, it will be run on a seminar-type basis, and discussion is greatly encouraged. Students are also encouraged to use this course to advance their research skills.
